Lucinda had a light bulb go off in her head at the housekeepers words. She needed somewhere to hide stay currently. "Well, if that's the case, are y'all hiring?" She smiled back and shifted slightly. "I don't have a resume on me or anything...or much experience. But, I can learn quick and work hard."
"Well no, I'm technically the housekeeper, but since the place is so small I do other jobs too. The front desk person is supposed to make the cookies and muffins, but if we're being honest here, she isn't the best at it and she claims she doesn't have the time, so I offer to do it." She smiled.

hi dear moot. i would love it if you told me more about amelia and pandora being roommates and selling together. what house are they in? is there anyone else in the dorm? who are their regular clients? is xenophilius involved? are they close friends or just friendly because of the circumstances? how does amelia feel about pandora's friendship with the slytherins? idk i'm just really fascinated by the idea of them two interacting i never thought of it before
Okay admittedly i didn't think too hard abt it originally but I feel like it'd be something like this
Pandora wasn't really friends with her roommates, choosing to just stay to herself most of the time, until like 5th year. She and Amelia had a few classes together (herbology lmao) and often got paired together because they were both "intelligent and respectful young ravenclaws!" (wrong so very wrong), and they started to talk more and realized they had more in common than they originally thought. They both had an odd sense of humor and often joked about how herbology would be "so much more interesting and silly" if they grew weed (once the professor heard one of them say that and knocked off a few house points but it was worth it for the joke). Somewhere along the way, Amelia figured out how to grow Marijuana and one thing led to another, and then, somehow, they were testing to see if they could actually grow it in the ror.. and well..
Anyway turns out they grew a bit too much and didn't know what to do with it so they did the only logical thing they could (there were definitely more logical options), sell it. Eventually they ran out, but they counted their money and realized they had made a shit ton of profit and actually had a lot of fun doing it, so they started growing more and expanding their business. Amelia was the brains of the operation, coordinating meet-ups, running background checks on clients to make sure they aren't rats, making back-up plans and strategies for how when the teachers eventually caught on. Pandora was the saleswoman and spokesperson, she sought out potential clients, psychoanalyzed them to the point they maybe got a bit scared of her, she did all of the dirty work that kept the ring going. And they didn't, under any circumstances, smoke their own supply (wrong so, so very wrong).
Since Pandora was naturally giggly and spacey, professors didn't think anything was out of the ordinary when Pandora was actually high. Amelia, however, definitely had quite a few professors raise an eyebrow when she giggled at nothing or zoned out or acted sleepy in general. But Pandora having Pandora as both a friend and roommate was a good crutch, Pandora would always just hum a little, giggle, and say "sorry professor, we talked a lot last night so she's a little sleepy, I think im wearing off on her too, we'll try not to do it again tonight though" when teachers would ask.
As for their clients, they sold to a lot of people, experimenting 4th year Gryffindors, most of the people in Hufflepuff, stressed out Ravenclaws, depressed slytherins, although their clients were a variety of ages, they did have one main rule, no selling to 3rd years and below, and only give 4th years a very small amount. Their biggest clients were the Marauders, often they'd send Peter because it was less questionable for him to be seen talking with Amelia or Pandora than it would be for Sirius or Remus or even James. Sometimes Marlene or Mary would buy some for parties or just because. Even though Lucinda, Emma, and Hestia were Amelias friends and Hestia was their roommate, they still had to pay when they bought lmao, Amelia didn't give friend discounts. If Pandora sold it for more than the actual price when Emmeline bought from them, that was nobodies business but her own ("she's just so obnoxious! Acting like she's so smart and perfect and pretty and kind and sweet and.. whatever, payback and all that" "..if you say so" "really I hate her" "..uh huh...")
Xeno was a huge client, Pandora didnt really know if he was buying all of it for himself or for his friends too, but he definitely was a major client. That's probably how they met/got close (in this au at least), drug dealer x stoner yk the deal. Eventually, Pandora and Amelia gave xeno a special discount and he probably ended up working with them for a bit too.
Amelia was a bit wary of Pandora at first because of her friendship with the slytherins, but eventually, she realized that the slytherins are just people, and Pandoras connections were actually better for potential clients.
Anyway yeah, Amelia and Pandora being very strategic, and very successful drug dealers and being those friends that know a lot about each other and talk a lot, but also don't really talk much outside of the classes and business they have together. Like work/class friends that get along real well but probably wouldn't hang out outside of class and work
This got a lot longer than i expected lmao, anyway tysm for the ask lovely moot, I get so happy on the rare occasion I get them

20(ish) Things About Me
tagged by @al-the-grammar-geek (thanks Al! since being back on night shift, I am very in need of time wasting activities) name/nickname: Jas
gender: Nonbinary
star sign: Scorpio, though I don't put stock in it
height: 5′2" (on a good day)
birthday: Halloween
favorite bands: I don't listen to a lot of bands, but I like Florence+The Machine a lot. I also like Hozier, The Dixie Chicks (though I think they're just The Chicks now?), The Mountain Goats, Billy Bragg & Wilco, and The Lumineers, probably others I'm forgetting. Oh! And my dad's old band, The 103 (which my brother and oldest sister were also in and it was pretty cool)
favorite solo artists: Leonard Cohen, Adele, Guy Clark, Patty Griffin, Natalie Merchant, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Sara Bareilles, Meghan Tonjes, Jack Johnson, Ian Tyson, Lucinda Williams, Toni Price...
song stuck in my head: None at the moment, but only cause I'm watching TV; there's basically always something stuck in my head if I'm not watching or listening to something
last movie: I don't remember; we watched a holiday movie about a monster in a small town on Christmas, but I'm not sure if I've watched anything since. Though I guess Frozen was on at work last night and I caught moments of it...
last show: Currently have Critical Role on, though I'm paying very minimal attention. Last regular TV was The Magicians
when did i create this blog: Unsure, guessing maybe about 7 years ago? I remember it was right after I got into Babylon 5
what do i post: who even knows. not much fandom these days, so it's mostly random
last thing googled: an actress from The Magicians
other blogs: none that I use
do i get asks: Very rarely, since I don't really interact anymore. Back when I was more engaged here, occasionally.
why i chose my url: About 17 years ago I found the internet and became CrazyTaraWitch [because I loved Tara Maclay (from Buffy) and though myself to be both crazy and a witch]; I've seen no reason to assume a new identity
following: I don't really pay attention, but a few hundred?
followers: around 500 I think? also not a thing I look at
average hours of sleep: Around 7.5-8 when I work, more like 9 when I don't. And I'm still always tired.
lucky number: 13, 7, and 3
instruments: I mostly just sing, but I have been taking drum lessons for a little over a year - I'm still not very good, but I've made a lot of progress!
what am i wearing: A Steven Universe tshirt and boxers
dream job: Something similar to what I do now but way better! I used to work in infant/toddler child care and that was the best job in the world except the pay was crap, so I went to nursing school in the hopes of finding some sort of work that was roughly medical child care. I am now (finally!) doing the closest work I can find, working as a nurse at a residential facility for kids (or kids-ish - a lot of them are teens and our oldest is 27) with complex medical needs. But I don't actual get to interact with the kids very much and it's not as fun as I hoped, so I want a mish-mash of the best parts of new-job and all the things I miss from early education but with pay equal to or better than new-job. Like, a toddler classroom but all the kids have trachs or seizures or whatever, but it's still a classroom? And I'd be a teacher who happens to be a nurse and provides some nursing care, but I'd be paid like a nurse!
dream trip: I want months to explore Europe with my partner, backpacking at times [cause in dreams I don't have back pain!] and traveling by train and occasionally getting fancy hotel rooms, though in my dream version A) we'd know at least the basics of all the languages; B) it would be super easy to find vegetarian options everywhere we go; C) no one is transphobic to either of us; and D) I still have lots of Euroean internet-friends to meet and hang out with.
nationality: American
favorite song: I'm not sure if it's still my actual favourite, but for years I've said Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and I'm too lazy to rethink it
last book read: Currently reading To Be Taught if Fortunate by Becky Chambers and a Doctor Who book called The Dark Path. I think the last non-comic-book book I completed was Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchet
top three fictional universes i’d like to live in: Oh man, that's super difficult! I guess the Whoniverse has the possibility to travel with the Doctor, so that would be cool. And Tortall! I mean the universe is kinda shitty and very sexist, but maybe I'd have magic, and I could be a knight! I really can't come up with anything for the third - most fictional universes I interact with are terrible Not tagging anyone, but if you see this and want to do it pretend I tagged you!

BACKSTORY:
“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. ”
She had never feared death, from the minute she was born. Death had seemed to be a constant companion for the daughters of the Lightwoods. Their parents were loving, at least to the outside world they were. The girls wanted for nothing, the best clothes , the best toys and books, a bed to lay their head. But it was when they were home, behind the locked doors of the Lightwood estate. The pristine image faded, the masked they were forced to wear for the rest of the world removed. The truth and pain clear for all to see. But no one was there to see it, no one but the girls. That was all they had-- each other. But that wouldn’t last long.
Charmaine was the eldest, At the age of five , Aurora could remember very little about her eldest sister. Except for the song that she would hum. Softly as she held the trembling little girl and her sister Thais in her arms. As the screams rang out in the night, echoing up to her room in the tower. Char was there to wipe her tears: she was more like a mother than there actual mother. Looking out for all the girls as best as she could. Not that Aurora knew this. Far too young for them to work their method of madness out on her. She and Thais were spared night after night but not from the screams. It seemed the very house was calling out to them. The shrieks in the wood, the floorboards; but only during the evening hours; when the skies were pitched black. But during the day they were free of them. Aurora longed for mornings. In the morning everything felt better and for a few hours there was nothing but quiet. Charmaine was there to look after them all it felt safe. However, even that couldn’t last. She can still remember when she died. That was the day the singing stopped. After Charmaine it was a steady progression, Lucinda was next then, Iris, some times it would be quick; one by one they would take a girl down to the basement. And come morning; when the screams were gone... so where they. Sometimes the deaths would stop, Their parents plotting and planning for what to do next. For when you seek the kind of power they were after. It came with a price. That was how magic worked. There had to be a balance of things, light or dark the rule was very much the same. Aurora and Thais they were still young. Easy for them to forget. To push the screams and the images of their father’s and mother’s tears running down their face as they looked at their blood soaked hands. In her young mind at the time, she thought they were crying for their children's lives. But really, they were mourning at yet another failed attempt at their grasp for more power.
There are worse things than death, like the loss of ones childhood . When you realize that the monster you feared are the people you know best.
Aurora was ten years old when they started their work on her now. Waking her in the middle of the night. Carrying her down into the bowels of their home. ‘Be a good little girl for us will you’. Her mother’s words were sweet but Aurora felt only dread. She knew what came next even if she didn’t have any idea what they would do to her. She knew the screams would come... and they did. Passing out because of the pain. Awaking the next day in her room. Body sore, she felt both drained and full. She didn’t question it though. Letting them use her body as a strange device. Putting more of their power and knowledge they accumulated into her. The more they filled her mind, the less she spoke. Till finally all she did was hum Char’s song and rock herself back and forth. Trying to quiet the noise. The volume so loud, But at least they let her and Thais out. Eight children down to two, Some people would have welcomed death, the process of filling her with power that wasn’t her own. It was painful, left her feeling strong but physically her bodies weakened over the years. It was a lot for any child to take; at by the time Thais turned sixteen her sister couldn’t take it anymore. They had left her home alone, her parents wanting to show Aurora off to their little cult. Followers who too wanted to imbue power into a living vessel so that they could always draw from them when need be.
When they got home though, they found her body there in the middle of the foyer, neck broken. A note laying next to her with two words. ‘ I’m free’ . With no more children left. Aurora’s parents doubled their efforts. They didn’t even bother with a funeral this time around. Finally something snapped within her. For years she had been docile and silent. Hoping that her parents would change but after losing sister after sister. Enough was enough. They thought, because she wasn’t taught to use her magic that she couldn’t. But magic is ruled from emotions— powerful ones. That night they took her, it was different. Knowing that it would come down to her life or theirs. Aurora made sure it was them, she had never felt anything like it . The power, the knowledge was one thing but the power? She had never tried tapping into it, never tried wielding it. And now, she didn’t know if she could ever stop. Hate cause the skin to peel away from bone. Exposing sensitive, muscle and veins. Anger, caused their skin to puckered and smoked, and the screams? Their screams encouraged her, now they knew how it would feel. How it felt to be abused and trapped. And as her eyes close she smiled laughter echoing around her because now she was free too.
A LITTLE DEEPER
- Aurora was found in the basement of the smoking ruin that was her family home by Devika an former friend of her mother. A perfect circle surrounding her body while blacken wood and the burnt bodies of her parents smoked near by. She was untouched by the flames
-She finds herself far more comfortable with books then she does with people.
- Because of being locked away for so long. Aurora isn’t great with social cues. She is far too honest, has no idea about the games that are being played by the creatures around her. So sarcasm... yeah she doesn’t understand that?
-Her best friend has been her owl Meadow, she is very attached to the creature
- Devika has only just started to allow Aurora to interact with other creatures and practitioners. Because of the power that her parents put inside of her. It is highly unstable and the more times she loses control the more it takes a toll on the woman’s body
- There are a lot of things that she missed out on. Not that Aurora would know. Her mind works differently and until she can figure out a way to separate her magic from her parents magic her life is in constant danger. - With the exception of Devika and maybe those able to get a feel of how unstable she is. No one knows what she suffered in that big house . All they know is that she is a little weird and possibly a ticking time bomb.
CONNECTIONS
Mentor: (open ) Devika was a blessing but she’s really not equipped to help Aurora ( a fact Aurora has told the older sorceress a number of times.) So she needs someone that can help her navigate what is going on with her... before it’s to late
Everyone needs... friends: ( open ) The only friends Aurora had growing up was her sisters, she had a few before her parents decided to lock her away in the house. But she can hardly remember them. So much is going on in her head. Still, she wants them even if she seems too analytical at times. she does want someone to talk to. To care for, whatever that means.
Unlikely Friends: ( open ) Even if it wasn’t her choice, dark magic is a part of who she was made to be. maybe a light witch can see the genuineness that is in Aurora as well as the danger but despite that all, could they actually be friends? Other supernatural creature friends : She knows they exist, she doesn’t know how to sense them tho. didn’t learn that when she was being tortured. Which means she has no preconceive notion about other creatures. They are different and interesting and new... she likes learning about new things and people. Someone to use her: Maybe they heard the rumors of what went on in that house. Maybe they saw her outburst of magic one time or two. Either way this person knows or at least has an idea of what kind of power that Aurora has raging inside of her. And they want to use it to their own end.

Review: 'Willie Nile Uncovered' Taps a Wide Array of Artists to Pay Tribute to an Underheralded New York Treasure
Every so often you'll hear a musician described as “your favorite artist's favorite artist.” This usually denotes a musician who, despite being lauded by some of the industry's titans, has inexplicably remained a cult favorite without breaking fully into the mainstream. It's hard to think of any artist who fits that description more than Willie Nile. The man who is sometimes described as the Poet Laureate of Greenwich Village counts among his fans and admirers the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Little Steven Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, and Richard Thompson. So, when a two-disc tribute album was announced for Nile, titled Willie Nile Uncovered, many probably expected an all-star cavalcade of Hall of Famers whose purpose was to raise Nile's notoriety in the community at large. Instead, Willie Nile Uncovered is a mix of well-known, if hardly household, names, but moreso a group of either fellow long-time club troubadours or young and hungry artists.
The formula works well for the album, with many of the highlights coming from the lesser known artists. One example is “Hell Yeah.” Opening the album's more rock-oriented first disc, it features Emily Duff. It's no surprise to anyone who is familiar with Duff's work that she's a highlight of the project. If there is any artist on the disc who compares most closely to Nile, it's Duff. A fellow New Yorker, both Duff and Nile embody a kind of punk-meets-folk style of blue collar roots rock that perfectly meshes with the grittier side of New York City. Duff brings a touch of Muscle Shoals and just a bit of Memphis to “Hell Yeah,” but at its core, she sounds like a mix of Nile, the punk-rock snarl of Joan Jett, and the devil-may-care free spiritedness of Wanda Jackson.
In some cases, the less-known artists benefit greatly from getting some of Nile's best songs. One of these is another album standout, Iridesense's Cheap Trick-esque interpretation of History 101.” It's my personal favorite Willie Nile song, lyrically the one that tips its hand most fully to the satirical absurdism of John Prine's “Jesus, The Missing Years” (not coincidentally a favorite of mine among the Prine catalogue). Full of historical references melded with literary, folk story, and rock and roll cats, leading Abraham Lincoln and Long Tall Sally to invent rock and roll, only for Joan of Arc to serenade God with an electric guitar before being burned at the stake.
XL Kings also make the most of a Nile favorite, “That's the Reason.” The song in its original form was a tribute to early rock and roll, both in its 45 friendly brevity (2:30) and its jangly guitars and sing-along chorus. XL Kings push this tribute to 11, going into full Buddy Holly cover band mode, bringing fun-loving pop in heaping helpings. Fellow New York road warriors Leland Sundries bring a bit of, no surprise, Bo Diddly blues to the B.B. King meets The Band fan favorite “The Day I Saw Bo Diddly in Washington Square.”
That isn't to say the veterans don't get their moment. The album's lone Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, reminds everyone just how timeless Nile's social commentary songs are as, while written across a wide swath of Nile's 40 year career, they all work well as a commentary on the current inhabitant of the White House. “All God's Children” is a rock and roll gospel anthem, made even bigger here with a full choir backing up Lofgren's signature drawl and guitar licks. In this case, it came from Nile's sublime 2018 album Children of Paradise, so very well could have been about our current Commode in Chief. But beyond that, it's a touching tribute to the poor and forgotten minors, the voiceless victims of political infighting. Lofgren throws all he has to give into lines like “sing for the the nameless ones, hungry and downhearted. Sing for the peacemakers to finish what they've started.”
There are too many highlights on this album to feature them all without this becoming a 2000 word album review, so I'll keep it short by pointing out some other standouts. Jazz-folk artist Jen Chapin brings a serenity to “The Crossing.” Veteran rocker Elliott Murphy puts an arthouse film soundtrack spin on “Les Champs Elysses.” Bongos frontman Richard Barone actually sounds a lot like Nile on his cover of Nile's love letter to his home, “Streets of New York.” And that just cracks the surface.
Would Willie Nile Uncovered have been a better album if these songs featured the all-star cast it probably could have pulled with little effort? It's impossible to know. It certainly would have been an album with a lot more publicity. But from interviews with Nile I've read and from my own few brief e-mail interactions with him myself, I think this might be the album he'd like more. What better way to pay tribute to one of rock and roll's great unheralded poets than with a set of songs by some of the nation's other unheralded poets? If Nile's career has been built on a small, but cultishly loyal, fanbase, why not try to build up a cult fanbase for others who have taken his songs to heart? The album is, after all, called Willie Nile Uncovered. In one interpretation, that could be ripping away the veil that hides Nile's 40 year history of whip-smart lyrical genius. In another, it could be interpreted as uncovering some artists who deserve more recognition, using the songs of Willie Nile as a gateway. In either interpretation, this album will be a delight for Willie Nile fans, and a decent primer for those who don't know him but are curious, although with the double album price tag, the browsers may want to utilize Spotify first. That's not something I ever recommend due to their terrible payout to artists. I do so here because I am that confident that a couple of spins of this album will lead to buys of Nile's catalogue, as well as a few from the featured artists.

At Hogwarts, Lucinda was always the life of the party. She’s always been extroverted, or maybe it’s charming. Her ability to talk herself in and out of situations might even rival people like Lucius Malfoy (who, even though Lucinda despised, she still admired). Lucinda grew up in a world where people were prim and poised but she was never quite that person. Loud, sometimes obnoxiously so, and active, Lucinda didn’t know how to keep her mouth shut. Pure-blood society disliked her because she wouldn’t mold to their standards. Lucinda is fairly assertive. If she doesn’t like you, she will tell you (and it’s also not hard to see on her face). That never panned out well in the societies that her parents often forced her to frequent.
However, Lucinda is a good friend. To those she holds close, which is far and few between, she has learned how to be soft. More than that, she is good-natured. She sees the world optimistically, even if it has proven to her that it isn’t always that way. The war itself has taught her the importance of privacy, and she believes secrets are her biggest ally. Lucinda considers herself trustworthy, although that trustworthiness often comes with a price. Nothing comes on a shining silver platter, as much as pure-blood society would like young woman to believe it, and keeping a secret for some is like holding on to a bomb. While she is good at her balancing act, that does not mean she wants to be the one who explodes. Her selfishness often bleeds into her interactions with those that she would like to keep at arms length.
Lucinda is also ambitious but oftentimes in a way that harms her personal relationships. Although the entire pure-blood world is full of greed, she never quite adopted the loyalty that came along with being a Talkalot. While some would say that’s a good aspect, she also doesn’t quite know how to commit to people that she actually does want to be around. Her world revolves around getting to the top, and she doesn’t quite know how to do that, even with the people she calls her friends. In turn, Lucinda is slightly cowardly. Her parents, stout Death Eater supporters, are wrong, and she will tell any Order supporter that right to their face. She believes in the Order, and equal opportunity, but she isn’t ready to say those words in public yet. The fear of losing everything she’s ever known, even if she doesn’t quite believe in it, often stops her in her tracks. However, Lucinda is fierce in her beliefs. If it came down to it, she’d pick the Order, and she would do so on the battlefield, if she had to. She’s ignorant to believe that she will not have to choose, sometime or another.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY:
Lucinda grew up in the countryside of France. Her parents were fairly wealthy, and she never had much to want for, although she was always given things that she did not want. Dresses, tea parties, and ballroom lessons were thrust upon her at an early age. It wasn’t until her father, a Wizarding historian, was hired by the Ministry to keep up their records, that Lucinda saw a broom up close for the first time. It was sitting in her father’s office. Her father, who she had never pictured as a sports person, longingly hung it onto his wall before turning to his daughter and explaining just what Quidditch was. That was the first day she ever remembered what love felt like. He took her out back of their home that night and taught her how to fly, carefully keeping her up on the broom when she thought she might fall. For that brief moment, Lucy wasn’t a Pure-Blood; she was just a Talkalot.
But there was always her mother to remind her just who she ought to be. Lucinda never really minded, that was until the boys were able to play Quidditch or other outdoorsy games and she was locked in a tea room. She would often sneak out, much to her mother’s chagrin, to play with the boys. Soon, it was better to just leave her alone. It drove a wedge between herself and her mother than she didn’t quite know how to fix. Not that she necessarily wanted to. When someone was always telling you just how disappointing you were, it was hard to let them back into your life in any emotional way.
Of course, Lucinda never wanted for much. Hogwarts presented itself and for the first time she had freedom from her parents. Freedom that quickly made her realize that she had no idea what she was doing on her own, and she loved to make choices (even if they were bloody terrible ones). Her mother became crueler as Lucinda grew more interested in the world outside Pure-Blood manor. Her parents often talked about disowning her if she hadn’t gotten hired by the Harpies just out of school. Her father was thrilled when she got the letter, but mostly because he could tell all of his friends that his daughter played for the Harpies.
And his friends, along with Lucy’s parents themselves, instilled the idea that they were better-than everyone else. That their blood, somehow, made them perfect. Lucinda never fully bought in to their talks, but she knew from a young age that because of her blood status she was different. Now, she just hopes she can learn how to train herself out of the harmful ideas that her parents started serving with her tea from the time she could talk.
OCCUPATION:
Lucinda still plays for the Holyhead Harpies as a Chaser. Although it seems unnecessary, Lucinda doesn’t quite know how to survive in a world without Quidditch. It’s a sport, yes, and on some level she recognizes that. But as soon as Quidditch disappears, Lucinda thinks all is lost. Besides, there are still people who aren’t fighting in the war and Lucinda wants to give theme a bit of a good time. After all, not everything has to be gloom and doom every second.
ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER:
Lucinda isn’t necessarily the poster child for the Order. Unless you’re part of the organization, you wouldn’t even know that she didn’t believe in what Lord Voldemort was doing for high society. However, Lucinda is constantly on the ground for the Order, trying to find out secrets and smuggle goods from country to country. Since she plays Quidditch, it’s so easy for her to get from place to place. No one expects anything of her, especially not when she is in her uniform. At the Order, though, she can sense that people do not trust her. They don’t know what to make of the Quidditch star turned smuggler. If she’s being honest, Lucinda doesn’t know exactly who she is either. The Order is where her heart lies, sure, but sometimes the heart doesn’t get to do what it wants. For now, though, she will continue playing her part, hoping that, soon, she begins to understand her own role inside the Order.
SURVIVAL:
Survival for Lucinda is fairly simple. She goes to work, she goes to the safe house. As long as no one finds out about the latter, Lucinda is in the clear. Of course, that doesn’t mean she isn’t slightly paranoid about the fact that someone might find out. Someone who might put her life in danger. Lucinda tends to stay away from those in her mother and father’s circles, but there’s only so much one can do when they seem to be popping up around every corner. More often than not, Lucinda has to put on another face in order just to keep herself alive. It’s terrifying to think that she might be found out and Lucinda will go to whatever cost to make sure no one in her life knows. If that means having to betray the Order to save her own skin, her selfishness might come into play. However, she’s too smart to be captured; too smart for someone to give away her secret. At least, that’s what she hopes.
RELATIONSHIPS:
- FABIAN PREWETT. Lucinda thought Fabian was going to be a wildcard. Yet, upon meeting him, Luci felt like he was one of the most trustworthy members of the Order. It’s a gut feeling, one that she can’t quite get to go away, despite the fact that he might not trust her in turn. He’s one of few that she would willingly tell her secrets to, though, and that scares her just a little bit.
- SIRIUS BLACK. Lucinda wishes she held some of his integrity. He’s the poster boy for someone who escaped the pure-blood world. In fact, he stormed out, leaving dust and debris in his wake and causing the rest of the pure-blood families to crack down on their own children. She was jealous of Sirius, even if she didn’t want to admit that fact. The thought of being able to get away from it all, in what seemed an easy if not destructive fashion, felt nice. The jealousy, though, caused her to feel resentful towards Sirius, even if she wished to be more like him.
- EMMELINE VANCE. Much like Fabian, Luis trusts Emmeline Vance. As much as she would hate to admit it, because Emmeline’s way of life is just boring, she admires the older woman. She is strong-willed in a way Lucinda will never be. Maybe, though, if the war continues and she is forced to hide with the Order, Emmeline might take her under her wing. Luci would like to be involved in what Emmeline is doing.
- FRANK & ALICE LONGBOTTOM. Lucinda doesn’t trust either of the Longbottoms. Yes, Alice is in the highest rung of the Order, but Frank seems to always be second guessing her choices. Luci can’t help but see him around in her pure-blood circles and is worried that he’ll make the wrong move. After all, she knows that the Longbottoms don’t trust her, in turn. Maybe they have good reason.
- EMMA VANITY. Younger than Lucinda, and also a young woman who had shunned the pure-blood world, she felt a certain need to take care of Emma. Of course, Luci is not the motherly type, so she’s quite terrible at it. Either way, she hopes to make friends with the younger girl, but it comes from a place of hoping to fix herself too.
OOC EXPLORATION:
SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: I’m open to just about anything for Lucinda and I don’t really think there’s anything I wouldn’t be able to explore. I see Lucinda as fairly open sexually but not as open when it comes to romantic relationships. She has a hard time letting anyone in, or rather, committing for a long period of time. If she does open her heart, she doesn’t think it will ever work well. Especially not with a war brewing in the background. The extra stress would not mix well in a romantic situation.
WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE? Lucinda has all of the privilege and she has a hard time recognizing that it’s there. Her brain just doesn’t quite understand that just because she’s helping the right side of the war, does not mean she is not sometimes in the wrong. Or that she has any right to make decisions for people like Mary MacDonald or Lily Evans. But, she still does try to make those decisions. Her own experiences often stop short of knowing what it’s like to be a muggleborn, or even what it’s like to be a half-blood. And, more importantly, Luci doesn’t try to expand that knowledge. If it’s thrust upon her, she usually takes it well and is willing to learn. But Luci has never been one to seek out understanding unless it comes hurtling towards her like a bludger.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? Marauders groups always interest me, but it’s not often I find one that feels quite so intricate. I am going to enjoy seeing all of the pieces of the puzzle work together, but I also love that those puzzle pieces feel incredibly realistic. I really can’t wait to (hopefully) write a world that seems real, populated with characters who are flawed and stubborn and hurting, yet bold and hopeful for a new future. I can’t wait to write a world full of battles that we are fighting in American society and around the world today, although using the help of magic and these beloved characters who I always love to see on my dash. For Lucinda, I’m most excited to see where she finally lands. Her heart is in the right place, but her mind hasn’t quite caught up with it, and she fears letting her parents down, or, worse, being found out. Lucy is not quite as strong as she lets on, even if she’s strong on the Quidditch Pitch. I can’t wait to play with that balance, and also see how she works with others in the Order when she is, more often than not, living and working somewhere else.
ANYTHING ELSE?: I don’t think so!
EXTRA FOR NON-BIO CHARACTERS:
PAST: Lucinda always felt as though she grew up in the wrong home. Her parents, both faux-regal Pure-Bloods, were always putting on a lavish show. It wasn’t until her father introduced her to Quidditch that she ever felt as though she belonged. While she was always closer to him than to her mother, who constantly found reasons to demean her daughter, Lucinda never felt as though she fit in the spaces of their manor. Even moving to England from France came with new complications. Her mother instantly started prepping her for balls to meet all of London high society’s most eligible bachelors. She was ten. The truth was, Lucinda saw through the glitz and glamour of Pure-Blood life, and Hogwarts was the only place where she felt as though she could escape. When she returned home, she
PRESENT: The war wages on and, despite calling herself an Order member, Lucinda largely ignores it. Although she has gotten herself into more shady dealings, and she often is smuggling in the dark of night, wind flying beneath her broom as she brings needed supplies to the safe house, Lucinda often tells herself that everything is fine. Her job has not changed. Her family has only risen in prominence. If she were not looking at the man behind the mirror, at the ghastly face of who was behind all of these terrors, Lucinda could say that her own bubble was getting shinier. However, on some level she knows that these words aren’t true. While she works hard at her job, her heart is truly with the people at the safe house. Lucinda spends more and more time with them, hoping that what she provides is enough to help. There are many nights she sleeps on the road just so that she can find a bit of information on an attack. Her name gets her in places, of course, more than most, and because she hasn’t particularly turned her back on her parents, she is still welcomed. However, it’s that very name that also makes her a threat to the Order; it’s the very name that built her up that is looking to tear her down too.

"Pretty name. Nice to meet ya, Aria." Lucinda moved her with her parents after the fire. The one that they blamed her for. No one was allowed to know. Only the admin at the school will know, according to her parents. Lucinda just hoped that stayed true.
"This place isn't as bad as my school in Georgia. They were much more strict down there.." Lucinda sighed, glancing around the room. "It was easy to get bored there, hopefully it won't be as boring here. Is there anything good or fun to do?"
"Yeah." Aria nodded. "Not so lucky sometimes, but yeah she'd pretty cool." She nodded. She looked down at her notebook. Her mother wasn't happy she'd gotten detention, but she was going through a lot right now and just had to skip a class or two to clear her head. She was grounded though for it. Her mother was cool but still a good mom.
"Aria." She said with a small smile. "Nice to meet you."

Clover Health laying off 25% of staff members. Clover Health, a health insurance upstart that touts its tech-savvy approach to the insurance business( specifically in the Medicare Advantage market) is axing a one-quarter of its workforce, or about 140 employees, as it fights to adapt to the complex insurance market. The company is basically admitting that its tech-skewed staff needed to be shaken up in favor of those with more conventional experience in the industry–a challenge faced by many Silicon Valley startups that have little experience in the heavily regulated market.( CNBC)

Here’s an unfortunate fallout from a bare-knuckled fight over medication pricing: Rare drug manufacturer Vertex Pharmaceuticals says that 8,000 packs of its best-selling cystic fibrosis narcotic Orkambi were destroyed because they had outstripped their expiration dates as the company locked horns with the U.K.’s National Health Service. Some critics wondered why Vertex didn’t induce contingency plans for the medications as it tries to get Orkambi are subject to the U.K ., where about 40% of its nearly 10,000 CF patients could potentially is beneficial for the treatment. The NHS says the treatment’s cost is simply too high.( The Guardian)
THE BIG PICTURE
Judge blocks Medicaid work requirements in Arkansas, Kentucky. A federal judge has struck down recently imposed requirements in Arkansas and Kentucky that would require Medicaid recipients to either work or volunteer to qualify for the health care program geared toward the poorest Americans. Judge James Boasberg pointed to the various unintended consequences of the Trump administration-backed effort to fundamentally reshape Medicaid, including some beneficiaries’ anecdotes about living in regions with few jobs and then becoming too sick to work at all once losing their Medicaid.

SCUBA SHOW JUNE 23-24 IN LONG BEACH
The Nation’s Largest Consumer Scuba Expo Returns to Long Beach on June 23-24, 2018; Posthumous California Scuba Service Award to Honor Lloyd Bridges on 60th Anniversary of “Sea Hunt”
As spring turns to summer and southern Californians flock to the beaches, the 2018 Scuba Show invites all adventurous spirits to discover a world beneath the aquatic surface at the Long Beach Convention Center on Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th . As a special highlight of this year’s show and in celebration of the “Sea Hunt” television series’ 60th anniversary, the 2018 edition of the annually bestowed California Scuba Service Award will honor actor Lloyd Bridges, who passed away in 1998.
An iconic, must-see TV series of its time, “Sea Hunt” is largely credited within the industry as bringing a new awareness of the oceans and the sensation that is scuba diving to the mainstream zeitgeist of the United States. The posthumous honor will be accepted by Lloyd Bridges’s daughter (and sister to actors Beau and Jeff Bridges) Lucinda Bridges alongside pioneer scuba diver, actress/stunt double and previous California Scuba Service Award recipient Rosalia “Zale” Parry, who worked on the original series alongside Bridges.
Now in its 31st year, the Scuba Show connects divers of all skill and experience levels with the spirit, magic and adventure of marine environments through diving. An ideal event for anyone who has ever considered taking up this inspiring water sport, the Scuba Show is the ideal place to get information on how to get started – or in the case of the more experienced divers, to network and continue one’s journey. Throughout the weekend, attendees will have access to hundreds of enthusiastic scuba diving experts and the passionate diving community, all of whom are excited to share their knowledge and adventures.
For those looking to further an already established relationship with diving, the Scuba Show will feature dozens of seminars, clinics, workshops and classes on various specialized, educational and entertaining topics such as foreign travel, history, underwater photography, local dive spots, diving physiology, weather forecasting, marine conservation and more.
Each year, thousands of attendees interact with 300+ exhibitors, vendors and diving experts from around the world at the Scuba Show. Attendees can celebrate the show’s 31st year by learning how to get scuba certified, browsing hundreds of diving products and discovering the hottest trending diving destinations. Scuba Show activities include seafood cooking demonstrations, interactive art projects, themed photo booths, a new products showcase and a pool where attendees (10 years and over) can don full scuba gear and try out the sport.
The much anticipated Saturday night party for attendees and vendors will be held inside the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Great Hall (across from the convention center) for the first time, which means that this year’s party bears the distinction of doubling as an evening spent amongst the diverse marine life of California coastal waters. The party will include a silent auction and raffle benefitting No Kid Hungry, an organization that strives to raise the critical funds needed to ensure that all children in America get the healthy food they need each day, and for whom Lloyd Bridges’s son and End Hunger Network founder Jeff Bridges serves as National Spokesperson. In addition, over $40,000 in door prizes will be given away throughout the show.
“Southern California is home to one of the strongest markets of scuba divers in North America,” said Scuba Show producer, Mark Young. “It always pleasure to see this very special and very passionate community of divers come together every year to share their experiences, knowledge and passion.”
The 2018 Scuba Show will take place on Saturday, June 23, from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, June 24, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Long Beach Convention Center, located at 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802. Tickets are available online at scubashow.com/attendees/tickets. Full price tickets will also be sold at the door. Single day advance tickets range from $12 (single day exhibit hall) to $32 (single day exhibits plus seminars), and two day passes are $62 (includes exhibit hall and seminars). Kids 13 and under are free.

The Streets Don't Love You Back expands throughout Arizona By BETHANY BLUNDELL Staff WriterJun 28, 2017 (0) Rob, right, and Lucinda Boyd, creators of The Streets Don’t Love You Back, stand with Maricopa Mayor Christian Price, who has helped them expand their program. MARICOPA — When Rob and Lucinda Boyd first began the Streets Don’t Love You Back program, they never imagined it would go as far as it did. Now, they are seeing their program impact people all across the United States. Growing up, life wasn’t easy for this couple. When Rob was 9, he witnessed his grandfather kill his stepfather. So at age 10 he took to the streets, selling drugs and getting involved with gangs. Lucinda faced her own troubles. Although she grew up in a loving home, outside of her home she was sexually abused multiple times and turned to alcohol as her remedy. “It was easier to drink than to think about the shame and guilt of the abuse,” she said. “But the alcohol led to worse things later on.” When they met later in life, they shared a common bond, which motivated them to help others who have been through similar situations. They began TSDLYB, which was inspired by a book Rob wrote about his experience living in the ghettos of Detroit. The program began in 2009. They did public appearances, talked about Rob’s book and had a radio show about their experiences. Their program was taken to the next level in 2015 when Lucinda wrote and published the Life Skills Intervention Program. This is a six-week program designed to educate the public about the dangers of gangs, drugs, violence and abuse. She said they wrote the book and created the program because they wanted to be more hands-on and interact with people. “When we started out, we wanted to educate youth,” Lucinda said. “As we got started, a lot of adults have come to us because they haven’t healed from a lot of those past hurts relating to those issues. So we just help everybody now on those same topics.” The program is interactive and focuses on positive change and setting life goals. It is currently being administered in a variety of locations, including churches, .

British Jewellery brand Astley Clarke is known for quality fine and contemporary jewellery that is design focused, refined and easy-to-wear. They will be showcasing their first three collections by Dominic Jones, Creative Director of Astley Clarke. The triptych collection takes ‘light’ as its central theme and navigates between 3 interconnected groups: Astronomy, Phototaxis and Colour of Calder. “IJL provides exposure to a wide portfolio of high calibre retailers, from both the UK and overseas. It allows us to meet with our current UK stockists and helps to facilitate opening new accounts. We would recommend IJL to jewellery brands who are looking to network and grow their distribution”, explains Helen Jones, Head of Wholesale, Astley Clarke.
First time exhibitor, Kiki Carnegie Jewellery London will be showing in the Design Gallery. Her collections are inspired by Gaudi and the ‘Art Nouveau’ movement as well as the intricacies of Byzantine architecture, and features different coloured plating. “IJL will be the first ‘jewellery only’ trade show at which I have exhibited. It will be insightful for me to see all the other jewellery collections on show and I look forward to hearing from other jewellers about their journeys”, comments Kiki Carnegie.
Dog Fever, an exclusive line of sterling silver jewellery, symbolises the unique bond with man’s best friend, paying homage to the most well-known breeds from around the world, highlighting their characteristics and natural vitality. Uniquely created and hand-painted by skilled goldsmiths, enamellists and miniaturists in Italy, the jewellery is designed to transform a feeling into a piece of jewellery that resonates with emotion – with the Hug collection able to be worn on fingers, complemented by pendants, earrings and bracelets. New collections being launched at IJL for the first time include an increasing number of breeds features, as well as cufflinks, money clips and keyrings. Designing and making bespoke styles is something we are gaining a reputation for and, as a small manufacturer, we can provide this service alongside our stock range and work with our customers at a very personal level. It is now time to reach out to new customers! IJL seems to be the perfect place for us.”, comments Christopher Perry, Director and Silversmith.
